Pre-Camp Email #9 — Clothing, Personal Items and the Importance of Lableing

Date published: May 8th, 2017 | By Matthew

Hello 2017 Parents!

Each summer, shortly after the farmers arrive, a pile of clothing appears in an area labeled “Lost and Found”. It grows quickly. It’s hard to believe until you see it.

As a community, we go through that pile many times over the course of the summer. Some things in that pile are labeled and returnable.

Unlabeled items, though, prove difficult to return; and despite multiple attempts, hundreds of personal items are left unclaimed by the end of the summer.

(You'll find a packing list in CampMinder under Forms and Documents.)

Please help us keep your child’s clothing and personal items out of Lost and Found. Please label everything, including water bottles, shoes, bedding and toothpaste.

Many parents say Sharpies work for most items. For a stick-on alternative, we sell Mabel’s Labels in CampMinder. Stick-on is quicker than iron-on.

Also, please consider sending your child with extra labels or extra Sharpies.

After your child returns home, if he has left something valuable behind (and if you request it, and if we can locate it) we will send it to to you as quickly as possible.

We welcome your suggestions about helping farmers keep track of their clothing, equipment and personal items. You can always reach me at 717-567-3349 or

Most sincerely,
